Financial Planning for Families in Student Ministry
How much is all of this going to cost?
Scholarships— We plan within our budget to be able to assist those with financial need to be able to attend discipleship and growth activities. Example; Events and retreats that have significant Bible study and learning opportunities like Disciple Now weekend will have scholarships available.
Fun Activities— We do not provide scholarships for “fun activities” like concerts, canoe trips, lock-ins. In an effort to teach Biblical money management and responsibility, we follow the principle that as adults we can’t afford to do everything we want to do, so it is good for students to also learn this principle. If there is an extreme situation, considerations are made for a student to “earn” a fun activity.
Fundraising — During the late fall, and all of spring we offer numerous opportunities for students to earn money towards camp and mission trips. This has also been extended to the Dare2Share St. Louis trip. These will include servant projects at Calvary, yard clean up days, annual dessert auction, Calvary nights at local restaurants, and more. Each year, multiple students have earned their entire costs for both mission trip and camp through fundraising efforts.
Stewardship— We do ask for the sake of stretching every ministry dollar donated to Calvary that you prayerfully consider if it is possible for your family to pay the full amount for trips or camps. Several of our students and families have chosen to pay the full amounts and still work the fundraisers in order to help the rest of the team. They are a great blessing, and they allow scholarships and fundraisers to be used for the greater needs.
Family Budgeting —This year we are creating an option for families to budget for student ministry involvement, without surprises in the family budget. You can choose to pay monthly towards your student’s activities (this is not a donation, and not on giving records because it is for “services, trips, etc.”)
However, please understand we cannot refund any money not used. If a family falls behind in the plan, we will apply the money given towards major summer events, and ask the family to resume paying for events individually. Payments are for 9 months, October through June.
Summer Plan—Covers Mission Trip ($350) & Camp Soar ($150) - total $500, $56 x 9 months.
Almost All Plan— Covers;
Mission Trip $350
Camp Soar $150
Disciple Now $ 35 (November)
Concerts $ 20 (Rock & Worship, WinterJam, both in spring)
Lock-In $ 25 (either Jr High lock-in in fall or Sr High lock in spring)
YouthQuake $ 10 (January youth rally)
TLW Banquet $ 10 (February—True love Waits Student Ministry Banquet)
Dare2Share $ 65 (March, St. Louis evangelism retreat)
We will provide a commitment form and envelopes for these plans in late September.
