What does a missionary look like? In your mind's eye, is a missionary young, old, married, single, male, female? Here's how I see a missionary: Serious-minded, yet outgoing and fun-loving; focused on those around them, yet wondering about and praying for their faraway family members; concerned about the possible danger that might confront them at any time, yet more concerned about the spiritual plight of those they meet daily. Southern Baptists have over 5000 such folks serving our Lord in distant places. They are depending on us for their support, and one of the best ways we can do this is to give a worthy Lottie Moon Christmas offering through our local church. Envelopes for this purpose will be in the chair backs throughout December. Calvary's goal is $7500.
You did it again, Calvary! Thanks for coming through in a great way to restock the shelves of the pantry at Grand Oak Mission.
The annual Republic Christmas parade took place on November 17. Thanks to all who represented Calvary by singing carols, marching with our group, and throwing Hershey's kisses. We again supplied clean-up at the end of the parade. Special thanks goes to Don Wilson for the use of his tractor and to Charles Bower for driving it. John Beamenderfer donated both his time and the supplies to make the banner that headed up our group, and he did his usual outstanding job!
Some of you will be approached by the Nominating Team within the next few weeks and asked to pray about serving as a member of the Missions Team, replacing three of us who will rotate off the team as well as filling another vacancy. This group makes the plans for all missions outreaches throughout the year (local, in nearby states, throughout North America, and international). It is an awesome responsibility and a source of joy, and the Lord may be calling you to be involved!
Here's a little "tickler" about Calvary's future missions outreaches: Think Nicaragua!
